The venue sits inconspicuously within the Art Centre complex, amidst the sleepy town of Port Noarlunga, south of Adelaide. With a capacity of around 120 it is a nice intimate venue that lately has been coming alive to the sounds of great roots and blues music, headlined in July 2016 by international artist Erik Steckel, and more recently interstate artists the Shane Pacey Trio. Both shows were ably supported by the best of local Adelaide acts.
On Friday 18 November we were treated to three top class acts on stage over a three and a half hour show that didn’t let up.
Thirty Two Twenty kicked off the night with their tight three piece power mix of originals from their new self titled release and some tasty traditional Blues covers. Brothers Russ/Lee Nash and Peter Gore make up Thirty Two Twenty and play music akin to two other great brothers (Luther and Cody Dickison) of the North Mississippi Allstars, played with great enthusiasm, showmanship and talent. A great start to a great evening of music.
Next on stage was the Stefan Hauk band. (Stefan Hauk, Jamie Lee Jones and Milush Piochaud). Three young and talented musicians beyond their years. I don’t think any of them understand the talent they have – or if they do they sure didn’t show it! Maturity beyond their years in a musical sense and a connection that was a joy to be seen. A mix of originals (penned by Stefan) and covers of some of the classic Blues and Rock songs through the years. All three musicians are outstanding in their own right and had the crowd spellbound with musicality and versatility.
The Shane Pacey Trio; (Shane Pacey - Guitar/Vocals, Paul Blasi – Bass and Dave Fester - Drums)
were the headline act. Think the Bondi Cigars with a leaning toward a rockier, bluesier style. It’s a tribute to Shane to have been doing this for so long with such enthusiasm and quality. Paying tribute to many of his influences Shane and Band played for nearly two hours, followed by two encores. The crowd hung around right to the end not wanting to miss a song and lapping up the chance to see a Blues Guitar master do his work.
Let’s hope we see more of these events down south and get the chance to once again witness such high quality entertainment south of Adelaide.
