I Caught up with Evan for a little chat about the special event and, of course the Memphis Challenge...
"Although we have enjoyed playing all over the country it's the people in our hometown that have blown us away the most with their generosity, love and support. Well, we love you guys too and would be honoured for you to come and celebrate with us and our good friend David Blight on the 23rd January at our farewell party/show".
How excited are you about heading to Memphis and travelling together overseas as a band and with Mick Kidd and Dave Blight by your side? Is everything in order, bags near packed and ready to go?
"Man, we’re freaking out a little to be honest… I heard someone say the only difference between nervous and excited is a smile… believe me, with the support we’ve received we haven’t stopped smiling!"
Are you ready to take on the job of blues ambassadors to SA? I trust you will be talking us up!
"We’ve been doing that for four years already. Anytime we play interstate and now overseas, we represent."
I hear you’ve got your stage gear sorted tailored purple paisley smokers jacket for starters how about the rest of the band?
"You’ll have to wait for the photo’s and Facebook stuff.. but let’s just say their looking sharp!"
Any further excursions planned, gigs, sight seeing, shopping ( maybe a nice Gibson or a spare Hammond)?
That would be nice! We’re not staying on for too much longer, just heading down to Clarksdale then New Orleans for a few days to soak it all up.
How long are you over in the States for? When can we expect you back in Adelaide with your Memphis experience bling and stories ?
We’ll be back mid February and celebrating with a show down at The Workers Club on the 19th.
Will you be keeping us up to date with a travel journal, Facebook posted etc, I want to see lots of pics?
"We sure will be. Through our Facebook page and newsletter".
Any thing else you can tell us about the preparations and what's ahead for you?
"We’re working hard to bring it all together. The set times in Memphis range from 20 minutes to half an hour so we have to make sure everything's timed to perfection. We’ve checked out a lot of video footage from past years. I think the one thing Lazy Eye has always strived for is to take it to the next level as far as our music, performance and behind the scenes stuff goes. This has been a real catalyst for that. From what I’ve experienced, we’ve got some bloody good musicians in SA and we’re really proud to be a part of an ongoing event that showcases that now and into the future. We owe everyone involved with the ARBA Memphis Challenge a huge debt of gratitude. Thank you."
Help send Erica, Evan and Mario off with a BANG as they join with our good friend and fellow Memphis bound musician David Blight (Cold Chisel/Mick Kidd & David Blight)
Drink. is it BYO all drinks? is there any available there?
Yes. BYO and a bar… Of course there’s no corkage.
Food. I heard a rumour there might be PIG ON THE SPIT ! Is that with salads etc, is there anything else, are Vegetarians catered for?
"Yes we 've got Pig on the spit, and there will be lots of salads but if you want to bring a meat substitute feel free".
Is it wheel chair friendly, easy access?
"Yes, it is".
I see it is family friendly… so no nude bathing then? Not until after midnight?
"We gonna let it all hang out.. of course by then we’ll be safely tucked up in bed so you can do what you like.
This event is the last event in Adelaide before you head off to Memphis?
" This is our official farewell. It’s going to be a brilliant night."
