The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton was the chosen venue, and the crowd began building a full hour before the music was due to begin. By the time Tinfish George took the stage it was standing room only, and by the last half hour the crowd was spilling out into the street, it was a fantastic turnout and very gratifying to us.
Whilst the music was on, buckets circulated the room as we asked for donations, with the end result stunning us by its generosity. South Australians gave freely and we finished the evening with a total of $1,788 raised for the kids in Thailand, who received every cent of these funds a couple of days later and was put to immediate use.
Of course we will do this again next year, and we are currently exploring venues and musicians in both Victoria and Western Australia. There’s even a whisper that the Playing For Change Foundation may be interested in setting up one of its music schools right here in Adelaide. Everyone who gave something to make our day the great thing that it was, can take pride in knowing that we have only just begun, to bring music to kids… they are our future. Thank you.
